How to rely less on aggregators with a QR catalog and WhatsApp

Apps bring guests. Commission eats the margin. Here is how some of the next orders can come straight to you.

Talabat, elmenus, and the rest are not the enemy. Plenty of guests find you there. The problem is when every order pays commission, and you do not know who they will open next time.

The goal is not to kill the app tomorrow. It is to give a guest who already tried you a way to order again without a middleman. These steps work beside aggregators, not against them.

1. Have a door that is yours

If the only menu is the app listing, there is no second path. A QR on the table, the bag, and the door sticker opens your catalog. The order lands on WhatsApp or the cashier board — you choose.

Better: one stable link. Do not change it every week. People remember what repeats.

2. The bag is a channel, not wrapping

Every aggregator delivery leaves with a bag. If that bag is only a logo, they will open the app again to reorder.

Better: a QR sticker and one line: “Order next time from here — no commission on us.” A card in the bag beats an Instagram post.

3. Keep the special on your catalog

If the discount lives only inside the app, you are training guests that the real price is there. An offer on your channel makes coming back to you cheaper and easier.

Better: a return meal, or free delivery over a minimum, shown on the digital catalog and updated the same day.

4. Show the number and WhatsApp

Many people would rather send a message. If WhatsApp is hidden behind the app, they will not try.

Better: a clear number in the footer, and WhatsApp ordering from the catalog for anyone not ready to order in-page. The two complete each other.

5. Do not cut the app in week one

Killing the channel that still brings volume, with no working alternative, hurts the till. Measure a week: how many orders from the app, how many from your link.

Better: keep the app for new people, the catalog for people who came back. When your direct share grows, you can revisit commission with a clear head.

A one-week test

Put a sticker on every bag. Ask the cashier each night: where did this order come from? If after a week none came from your link — the link is invisible, not the guest loyal to the app.

menutables gives you a catalog, QR, and WhatsApp orders on the free plan. Start free and open the channel where commission is zero.
